With thousands to millions bacteria around, people have reason for concern about their own safety. As such anti-bacterial detergents and soaps have become rather popular over the past 15 years. It should be noted that there are some anti-bacterial agents that can cause more harm than good regarding fertility levels. Two examples are that of triclocarban and triclosan which are added to many of the dental care and normal hygiene lotions and soaps. Many children’s toys are even coated with the two anti-bacterial agents. Originally used in hospitals to reduce the number of bacterial growth and infections, the two agents are now widely used by people in their homes. The problem with triclocarban is that studies indicate it interferes with hormone production which can severely affect fertility levels. The second agent triclosan according to studies hinders normal cell signalling and is thus also linked with lower fertility levels, immune deficiencies, and numerous allergies. The two agents have been dubbed as endocrine disrupting agents.
